Thanks giving or giving thanks....

As Thanksgiving Day is quickly approaching, I thought it only fitting that we give a little thanks!

Most stories of Thanksgiving history start with the harvest celebration of the pilgrims and the Indians that took place in the autumn of 1621. Although they did have a three-day feast in celebration of a good harvest, and the local Indians did participate, this "first Thanksgiving" was not a holiday, simply a gathering. There is little evidence that this feast of thanks led directly to our modern Thanksgiving Day holiday. Thanksgiving can, however, be traced back to 1863 when Pres. Lincoln became the first president to proclaim Thanksgiving Day. The holiday has been a fixture of late November ever since.

Christmas is by far my favorite holiday, but Thanksgiving is my second fave. I love that no one expects anything, but many offer everything. My heart is warmed every time I hear a story of how a family has been helped throughout the season. Most of these same people extend their kindness throughout the year. It can be as small as giving someone a few cans of food each week to as large as you want it to be...... I have been extremely blessed to have a loving family and dear friends to share this holiday and all holidays with.

So, what are YOU Thankful for? I'll start the list- please add yours - I'd love to hear and so would my Special Guests!

I am thankful for:

• My husband & family - who have stood behind me ALWAYS and I love you ALL!


• My old friends - you mean more to me than you will ever know

• For extra - I am extremely thankful that we are in a position to help others, it's not a lot, but every little bit matters.

I stumbled across Special Occasions East, LLC while searching for unique ring pillows. Lilyelle creates some of the most beautiful items I have seen in a long time. I love the friends I have met since I started my e-vents. Many of whom I met while reading their blogs (and vice verse) and Twitter.Everyone is so willing to help each other out and it has truly warmed my heart.

It's a Tea PARTY....

Most of you know about the annual tea party that I plan each January after the holidays. The event was planned to give a few lady friends a much needed stress reliever from the holidays. We could sip tea and just enjoy each others company. Oh and did I mention the teacup exchange?

Great minds think alike, my friend NaShara of Chicole::Intermixed is planning Glitz and Glam: A Holiday Tea Party. Her tea party is a way for women to take a break from all of the holiday stress BEFORE it all starts. The The event will offer tips on hair, makeup, fashion, financial and mental all while empowering Dress for Success. The menu itself has my mouth watering. Head on over to her blog for more information. There will be wonderful swag bags for all attendees, but hurry as seating is limited and you WILL NOT want to miss this event!

On a side note, NaShara is one excellent Makeup Artist. I had the honor of having her donate her services to The Bridal Photo Shoot a few weeks ago. Indy Photo Booth

I am not a big wedding favor person. At least not the useless ones. Trust me, I have taken my fair share of wedding favors and I do like the ones that can be either eaten right away or donations to a charity. I also really enjoy interactive ones. Mind you , I know it's not my wedding , but I would bet most folks feel this way. Anyway .................

When I first heard about the photo booths being used as favors at weddings, I was beside myself with pure JOY. I adored the photo booths at the mall in my younger days. My best friends and I would make silly faces and just plain have fun in them at the mall.

The Indy Area happens to have one of the finest in the business right here in town - The Indy Photo Booth. I fell in love all over again when I saw them at a local bridal fair. Your guests get to have some fun , take home a GREAT favor and you get to enjoy everyones pictures via CD later.

I am even more thrilled that they will be participating in THE Indy Area Vendor Showcase in March 2009. I can not wait to work with Beth Sexton and her partner, David Johnson on this and many more projects.

High Tea 2009

It's just about that time and the planning is underway. Indy area ladies will be enjoy a wonderful afternoon of traditional High Tea at the beautiful and historic Canterbury Hotel in downtown Indianapolis. I don't want to spoil the event surprises for the ladies, but I will share the menu. The event takes place the first Saturday in January. We've been enjoying this event for the past 8 years and it just gets better each year. I think the ladies enjoy the tea cup exchange as much as the tasty food and tea!

Our Menu:

English and Asian Origin Tea Selections

Variety of English Finger Sandwiches:

Tomato and Watercress
Seedless Cucumber and Walnut
Imported Smoked Salmon
Salami with Mustard and Sprouts

An Assortment of Bite-Size English Pastries and Petit Fours

I found this interesting tidbit of information from What's Cooking:
According to legend, one of Queen Victoria's (1819-1901) ladies-in-waiting, Anna Maria Stanhope (1783-1857), known as the Duchess of Bedford, is credited as the creator of afternoon teatime. Because the noon meal had become skimpier, the Duchess suffered from "a sinking feeling" at about four o'clock in the afternoon. At first the Duchess had her servants sneak her a pot of tea and a few breadstuffs. Adopting the European tea service format, she invited friends to join her for an additional afternoon meal at five o'clock in her rooms at Belvoir Castle. The menu centered around small cakes, bread and butter sandwiches, assorted sweets, and, of course, tea. This summer practice proved so popular, the Duchess continued it when she returned to London, sending cards to her friends asking them to join her for "tea and a walking the fields." The practice of inviting friends to come for tea in the afternoon was quickly picked up by other social hostesses.

We have called this event High Tea for so long , but actually what we are enjoying is Afternoon Tea. Whatever you call it, I call it a good time with friends - old and new alike!

More from What's Cooking: High Tea is often a misnomer. Most people refer to afternoon tea as high tea because they think it sounds regal and lofty, when in all actuality, high tea, or "meat tea" is dinner. High tea, in Britain, at any rate, tends to be on the heavier side. American hotels and tea rooms, on the other hand, continue to misunderstand and offer tidbits of fancy pastries and cakes on delicate china when they offer a "high tea."
Afternoon tea (because it was usually taken in the late afternoon) is also called "low tea" because it was usually taken in a sitting room or withdrawing room where low tables (like a coffee table) were placed near sofas or chairs generally in a large withdrawing room.

THE Indy Area Vendor Showcase

Dear Indy Area Vendors,

FRIDAY FAVE

This weeks Friday Fave is ...Mossimo Black Layered Effect from Target. This bag is awesome. Those of you who know me well, know of my love for designer bags. Louis Vuitton, Gucci, Kate Spade - just to name a few. I definitely have spent a pretty penny on these designer bags and I love them dearly. However, guess what I have been carrying for the last few weeks? Every color of the Mossimo Black Layered Effect tote from Target. The bag comes in black, brown, teal, cream and olive green. The bags are smooshy soft leather like and HUGE. I carried one for the photo shoot and for my meetings as they hold alot of items. The great thing is I don't feel like I loose things in the bag. I have received so many compliments on these bags.

While I am celebrating the greatness of Target, dontcha just love the $1 bins? That is the first place I head to when I arrive at Target. I have found so many wonderful stocking stuffers and wedding/party items inside of the bins. I adore all of the Hello Kitty items they sell and can't wait to give them to my niece once she gets older. My latest greatest find there are the hand and feet warmers. We use these for our annual snowboarding/skiing /tubing trips. A sporting goods store sells them for MUCH more, but I bet the Target ones are just as good. I'll let you all know in January after our trip if they are equal.

Sneak Peek - Bridal Photo Shoot

We had such a fabulous time yesterday at e-vents: a wedding and event planning company first bridal photo shoot. The day was absolutely beautiful so we were able to shoot some photos on Monument Circle by the fountains and some wonder artwork. I was sent a few photos early and wanted to share a sneak peek with my readers. More details and pictures later. Trust me, you will NOT be disappointed.

I am so excited - I am getting my new Iphone soon. I have been going back and forth between a Blackberry and the iphone. The iphone won!
